As I mentioned in my lettuce wrap post, I’ve avoided a rather popular restaurant that serves these delicious entrees because I was “glutened” not one, not two, but three times after ordering from their gluten free menu – all at different locations, too. Weird. Those experiences made me change the way I go about vetting restaurants, but also put me on a quest to cook delicious food at home. This is a family favorite inspired by an Iowa restaurant we frequented years ago. Noodles are optional, but that’s one of the ingredients we believe makes this soup so good. Look for liquid smoke in your local grocery store…and be sure you choose one labeled GF!
A good ol’ Sloppy Joe was always a favorite growing up. The flavor in this one is based on my mom’s easy recipe of ground beef, onion, green pepper, ketchup and mustard – we were not part of the manwich crowd. Since I’ve grow increasingly tired of vetting ingredients to be sure they are GF, I made these with my own trusted ingredients, no preservatives or gums, and at a fraction of the cost.
